Is it normal to take this long?

My hubby and I have been ttc for 8 months now. Before we were actively trying, we used the pull out method which we all know isn't exactly reliable. I went to the doctors this month and they thought my thyroid levels could be high because the last time they took blood it was borderline. I got a call a few days ago saying everything was normal...which is good, I suppose? I was hoping this was the case and the cause of my infertility. Is it normal to take this long ttc?
