Does God outline a preference of mother vs child in the light of survival?

I was told that if a robber had a gun to both a spouse and a child, the Bible says that the parents need to survive and the spouse should choose his/her partner's life over the child. Reasoning being that the couple can make more children but God can't make another you. Please help on this one and if you have scripture, that would help. Thanks and God Bless
